Be kind. Be honest. Look out for each other.
This applies to everyone at VivaHacks: participants, mentors, judges, volunteers, sponsors and organizers, in person and online.
The rules
- The short version
- Be kind, be honest, and look out for each other. VivaHacks is for everyone, and everyone should leave feeling welcome.
- Respect everyone
- Treat every participant, mentor, judge, volunteer and sponsor with respect, whatever their background, identity, experience or ability.
- No harassment
- Harassment, bullying and discrimination aren’t tolerated, in person or online. That includes offensive comments, unwanted contact, and photographing people who asked you not to.
- Respect privacy and health data
- Use public or synthetic data only. Never share anyone’s personal or health information without their permission.
- Use AI honestly
- Disclose the AI tools you used. Don’t submit work you didn’t make at the event or present someone else’s work as your own.
- Stay safe
- Follow staff directions, sign in and out, and stay in the event spaces. Tell a staff member if you need to leave early.
- Speak up
- If something makes you or someone else uncomfortable, tell an organizer or any adult staff member. We’ll listen, keep it confidential where we can, and act.
- What happens next
- Organizers can warn anyone who breaks these rules, ask them to leave, or remove them from judging. Serious issues are shared with parents or guardians.
